My letter to An Post went viral.
I got a letter from them in the post today, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
My letter to An Post went viral.
Almost 19,000 people have read it now, and many more have read the article about it on the Gript website. Needless to say, this type of response wasn’t what I was expecting, and I certainly didn’t write the letter with this intention in mind.
Thank you so much to all of you who subscribed to my stack off the back of it - it’s wonderful to have new readers. This was the first substack of mine to ever gain this much attention, and my tweet about it was the most popular one I’ve ever posted. If only that many people wanted to read my books!
Most people who commented said how they agreed with me, how they’d stand with me, how they thought I was very brave. I’ve been writing letters like this since this plandemic began, mostly I published them on my Facebook profile, before setting up my substack. I don’t feel brave, I just have to speak out when I feel strongly about something. It’s in my blood and bones, I cannot sit back and say nothing. I’m glad this letter hit a chord. Many people asked permission to copy and paste parts or all of the letter, to use it as a template. Which of course I’m very happy about and I give my full permission for.
The more of us that speak out, the better.
I received a letter today from An Post, not a direct reply mind you, just an official demand for the licence payment, and they also sent me a form looking for me to make a statement to say that I no longer own a television. I won’t be filling it out. Nor will I be inviting any inspectors into my property to verify whether or not I have a television. My heart did skip a beat and I did have a flash of anxiety when I saw the letter come in, and I’m sure that will happen with the next one too, whatever the contents may be. However I’m going to hold strong because I want them to address my issues, especially now, with the response I’ve had, I know that they’re not just my issues any longer. They are our issues. Thank you again for your support.
In the meantime, I thought I’d share an imaginary banter between two of my commenters on Twitter. Because I got a few negative comments, as well as all the supportive ones. I’ll write this up in the style of Roddy Doyle, because I can imagine it happening and I think it’s funny. Hope you enjoy.
-Hiya. Jaysus that’s a good lookin’ pint.
-Did you read it yet? That letter I was tellin’ ya about? Yer one with the TV licence letter, you should read it.
-Ah great stuff, thanks, I’ll take a look now, hang on a mo.
-Here’s her Twitter. Ah here. Energy healer? See, look, it’s in her bio.
-Wha’s that about? Is she one of those woo-woo types?
-Energy healer? Jaysus I missed that. What a weirdo.
-Yeah, and look at who she’s followin… Those doctors, them lads that were spreadin all that lies online. The covididiot brigade.
-Ha ha yeah, those clowns. She’s one of those nasty, ‘truthers’, far right types.
-Nasty bunch, those people.
**Drinks pint**
-But it’s a great letter all the same. Pity she’s one of them anti-vaxxers, wha?
-Yeah, great letter, got to at least give her that much. Might even use it myself.
Fantastic Abby, very well done. I can just imagine how your heart skipped a beat when you got the letter from An Post this morning 💗
Go Abby, behind you all the way. Courage is the antidote to fear.
