Where will this end?
I saw this notice on Facebook under a post about Ukraine. It didn’t even mention climate change. So we are now swapping one type of fact-checking for another? Where will this end?
As a one-time student of geology (I failed it twice in college) I prefer to think of our current climate issue as pollution. Climates always change. The real fear is that we are too comfortable where we live and don't want the climate to change and affect us and our lifestyle. We forget that we are fleas on a dog's back. We have lost our appreciation for Mother Earth and have taken from her and dumped on her and have not loved her or lived in harmony with her. Human beings have polluted the world.
The good news is, if we clean up the planet, it will recover. Treating this as an issue of pollution makes everything so much easier, and gives us hope, because we can find ways to clean it up faster than we can change the sun, wind and rain. And this way, we can see who the biggest culprits are, and pressure them to change their ways, instead of having them tell us what to do and make it seem like it is all our fault. The world will recover quickly if we give it the space to do so. Similarly to our bodies and how they heal; all we have to do is create the right conditions for our bodies, and they heal all by themselves.
Will the fact-checkers be checking our opinions on the situation between Ukraine and Russia too? For that's all they are, really. Opinions. I've seen many articles online for both sides, some say this isn't real, its another psy-op. Some say it is real and Putin is the arch-enemy of the world. Who's world? All the fear!! I stay away from fear, that makes us sick. Yet real people from Ukraine are suffering in real time, it is very real for them. Saying the war isn't real doesn't help or change anything for them.
This war, climate change, and many other issues are creating sides. We have not yet closed off the outstanding issues from the last two years either. We cannot be told that what we have experienced didn't happen, nor told that these things are more important. People have died, been abused, are still suffering. This is not over, and it cannot be brushed under the carpet.
What we need right now is to have a discussion. About everything. To have an openminded debate where we can learn and grow from each other. This is what has been cancelled. The opportunity to learn and grow, from each other. But that isn't happening because:
Out of fear of being wrong people are not speaking up.
Out of fear of being attacked, people are not speaking up.
Out of fear of being cancelled, people are not speaking up.
This is the true issue of the current times. Fear. Lack of debate. Lack of true journalism. Lack of trust in our media. Lack of patience and tolerance for ourselves.
I call for balance and kindness.
I call for patience, tolerance and understanding of the other.
I call for truth being more important than whatever side you want to win. Not your truth, not my truth, but THE TRUTH.
Where do we find that?
If we had a truthful media none of this would be happening in the first place.
